There are two major factors that led to the end of the Great Depression. Some believed it was Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal policies. Others believed it was the start of World War II. I believe it was a combination of both.
When Franklin D. Roosevelt took office he had a goal. He wanted to get the people out of this crisis. The Great Depression needed to come to an end. Roosevelt also aimed to prevent future economic collapses. The New Deal helped. Roosevelt's nomination acceptance speech started this goal. He said, " I pledge you, I pledge myself, to a new deal for the American people." He then explained that the new deal was; "use of the authority as an organized form of self help for all classes and groups and sections of our country." The New Deal helped families buy necessities like food and clothing. It employed laborers, writers, and artists. The Social Security act was also introduced. It was aimed to help the elderly earn money because they were too old to work.
World War II also may have helped end the Great Depression. During the war, more than 12 million Americans were sent into the military. Other war jobs (like pilots, cooks, manufactures for supplies, ect.) took care of 17 million others that were still out of jobs in 1939.
